This is about my dad. An amazing man. Running is his passion and this is about his journey.
Passion for Running
Athlete and regular columnist, my father is an avid runner who covered countless miles of pavement and dirt since 1996. He is a passionate advocate for healthy and active living who has touched many lives not because he runs hundreds of miles, but he inspires others to push themselves to the limit.
In 1996, he was diagnosed with a lifelong disease of diabetes mellitus type 2. It was an inevitable consequence from his unhealthy diet and sedentary lifestyle. However, he was determined to fight the disease and to claim his life back with running. Today, his diabetes is under control with diet and exercise without using medications. Now, he runs several marathons every year including ultra-marathons.
Because of his love for running, my father has pushed his mind and body to inconceivable limits. Among many of his accomplishments, he has ran Vermont 100 mile Endurance Run, Western States 100 miles Endurance Run, Wasatch Front 100 miles and Leadville Trail 100. Since 1996, he has completed more than 80+ marathons from San Francisco to Boston to Paris, France. Also, he ran charitable races to raise funds for leukemia and breast cancer survivors.
To inspire others, he has organized Korean Road Runners Club in NYC with more than 200 active members running every Sunday at Central Park. He is constantly pushing the boundary everyday for healthy and active lifestyle.
